WAAROM DE SITE VAN HET BOIS DU CAZIER BEZOEKEN?

Het Bois du Cazier, dat deel uitmaakt van het uitzonderlijke erfgoed van Wallonië, samen met drie andere grote mijnsites op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO staat en door de EU het label Europees Erfgoed heeft gekregen, heeft een unieke bestemming. Het Bois du Cazier is een mijnsite, maar het is meer dan een mijnmuseum; het is een getuigenis van het industriële verleden van Wallonië. Onder het motto “het verleden, het heden voor de toekomst” is het Bois du Cazier met een museumparcours gewijd aan steenkool, ijzer en glas een uitstalraam van de knowhow van de mens, zijn successen maar ook zijn mislukkingen…

Het Bois du Cazier is een eerbetoon aan de mannen, arbeiders en ingenieurs die België naar de top van de grootste industrielanden ter wereld hebben getild. Het is een referentiepunt geworden voor industrieel erfgoed en een belangrijke culturele en toeristische site. Van een herdenkingsplaats wil het Bois du Cazier evolueren naar een bewustmakingsplaats die actief burgerschap ontwikkelt in de hedendaagse maatschappij, rond thema’s zoals veiligheid op het werk en migratie. Het is ook een referentie voor zowel de bedrijfswereld als sociale organisaties die op deze plek willen samenkomen om hun evenement een authentiek tintje te geven. In het geografische centrum van de keten van terrils is het beboste domein van 25 hectare omgevormd tot een semi-natuurlijk park, waar bezoekers een bijzondere biotoop kunnen ontdekken.

Ten slotte wil de site zijn aanbod vernieuwen door nieuwe bemiddelingsinstrumenten te ontwikkelen met behulp van de mogelijkheden van nieuwe technologieën zoals Mapping3D, mobiele toepassingen op smartphones… Een bezoek aan het Bois du Cazier?
